Platelet adhesiveness in young patients with ischaemic stroke.

چکیده
A significant increase in platelet adhesiveness was observed in 13 patients who developed ischaemic stroke at high altitude and in 43 patients who developed stroke at low altitude when compared with a similar group of normal healthy volunteers. Eighty-eight percent of the patients were below the age of 40 years. The role of platelet adhesiveness in the pathogenesis of cerebral schaemia in young patients is discussed.

Platelet adhesiveness, plasma fibrinogen, and fibrinolytic activity in young patients with ischaemic stroke.
Cerebral thromboembolic stroke in the young is uncommon. Disturbances in the n ormally existing dynamic equilibrium between coagulation and fibrinolysis may play a major role in the pathogenesis of such episodes. In a search for a possible hypercoagulable state platelet adhesiveness by the method of Eastham, plasma fibrinogen and euglobulin clot lysis times were estimated in 46 patients. A grou...
متن کاملA note on platelet adhesiveness in ischaemic heart disease.
Platelet adhesiveness was measured in vitro in a group of patients with ischaemic heart disease and in a group of matched healthy subjects using either 1% EDTA or 3.8% sodium citrate as anticoagulant. When sodium citrate was used platelet adhesiveness was significantly greater in the group with ischaemic heart disease. However, no difference was found when EDTA was used. In both groups platelet...
متن کاملEffect of submaximal exercise on fibrinolytic activity in ischaemic heart disease.
Fibrinolytic activity and platelet adhesiveness are normal in cases of angina pectoris and healed myocardial infarction, whereas fibrinolytic activity is diminished in acute myocardial infarction. Exercise increases fibrinolytic activity in normal people but the effect on it of submaximal exercise in patients with ischaemic heart disease is not known. Resting platelet adhesiveness and fibrinoly...
متن کاملThe association of platelet count and mean platelet volume (MPV) index with types of stroke
Background: Stroke is known to be the third most prominent cause of death in the developing countries and the most common debilitating neurologic disease. This study aimed to investigate the association of platelet count (PC) and mean platelet volume (MPV) index with various stroke types. Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out on patients over the age of 18 years who presented wit...
متن کاملHigh incidence of severe ischaemic complications in patients with giant cell arteritis irrespective of platelet count and size, and platelet inhibition.
OBJECTIVE Vision loss and ischaemic stroke are feared complications in GCA. We investigated how platelet count and size and platelet inhibition with ASA relate to ischaemic complications in patients with GCA. METHODS Charts of patients with GCA were retrospectively analysed. Jaw claudication, amaurosis fugax, blurred vision, ischaemic stroke and permanent visual loss were classified as 'ischa...
